Safekeeping Stories since 1872

Officially established in 1872, B.P. de Silva Jewellers is amongst Singapore’s first luxury labels. The brand's rich heritage and legacy can be traced back to the 19th century when the Founder, Balage Porolis de Silva, set sail from Ceylon and travelled across the world before settling down in Singapore to open the first B.P. de Silva Jewellers Atelier on the prestigious High Street.

Fine Jeweller to Royalty

B.P. de Silva also received royal patronage as members of royal families commissioned the brand to create special heirlooms. The brand's first royal commission was by the Duke of Connaught (pictured above).

B.P. de Silva also received the great honour of being the appointed purveyor of jewellery to His Majesty, The King of Siam. Our story still being told today at the National Museum of Singapore's History Gallery.

The journey to B Corp Certification

B Corp Certification is a designation that a business is meeting high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency on factors from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices and input materials. Certified B Corporations, or B Corps, are companies verified by B Lab to meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.

Across the five generations, B.P. de Silva, like many private family-run businesses, has lived out its values through its decision making from the family and like-minded managers , but it was important for our Creative Director, Shanya, that B.P. de Silva integrates its value-backed decision making across the organisation – especially beyond the family in a more structured way to empower the teams to incorporate its principles at all levels of decision making. So when her brother Navin shared about B. Corp’s mission and certification, she was excited to explore more and found it a very valuable tool to view and assess the business moving forward.

In 2020, B.P. de Silva would begin the stringent process of examining its supply chain and standard operating procedures extensively.

Fairmined Gold

B.Corp: B.P.’s 3-year assessment

Key efforts by B.P. de Silva includes responsible sourcing of the materials the brand uses to craft with.

In a bid to further improve the traceability of its supply chain, B.P. de Silva also became a Fairmined Gold licensed brand, and is working towards crafting 100% of its ready-to-wear collections in Fairmined Gold by 2030.

“This includes ensuring that most of their collections are made using Fairmined Gold, which is gold that comes from responsible artisanal and small-scale mining organisations." – Ms Indranee Rajah, Minister in The Prime Minister's Office, Second Minister for Finance and National Development.
