Traceable Sapphires – From Nature's Roughs to Heirloom Jewels

Perhaps the most precious part of a jewel lies in the story it tells — and this holiday season, that story for us, is a dream come true, especially for our Creative Director Shanya, who shared her vision for traceable Sapphires years ago. The endeavour was long, in making her vision a reality, and it’s a lot to do with finding the right partners across the globe to bring it all together.

If we, a family business in our corner of the world, was able to dream up something like this, and against the grain, and make it come to fruition, we hope to help encourage a collective effort in greater traceability and transparency in the jewellery world."

The Journey of a Jewel

 

In 2020, nearly a half decade ago, Shanya did a pilot test, to see if traceable Sapphires were feasible for the brand. Quantities are incredibly limited, due to our stringent House Standards, paired with the fact that each natural rough is directly and personally sourced by B.P. de Silva Gemmologist and Specialists throughout its journey.

Years of trial and error, sourcing, and the sheer commitment of our team across our global supply chain reaped us hundreds of rough Sapphires, and out of the hundreds we thoroughly examined, only 6 would make that final cut.

Limited, and Marked for Added Traceability

Each of our new Pocketful of Gems Traceable Sapphire Necklaces come engraved with a number, 1 - 6, a mark of its legacy belonging to our inaugural curation of traceable gemstones.

This new milestone adds to the richness of the collection’s initial story, launched in homage to our Founder’s first pocketful of gemstones he travelled with in the 19th century. Today, our Pocketful of Gems collection celebrates the vibrant interplay between heritage and modernity.

Holiday Capsules: Traceable Sapphires and New, Engravable Designs

For the festive season, we’ve also launched something that some of our clients and members of the community have asked for in our daintier forms: a means to engrave personal sentiments. Whilst we already offer this possibility with our Old World Charm and Love Token Necklaces, something about the Pocketful of Gems necklaces’ daintier sizes make the touch extra sweet!
