Gemstone Jewels for The Most Important Women In Our Lives

Some of the most overheard questions at B.P.’s when it comes to choosing gemstone jewellery for a loved one are:

“How do I choose the gemstone cut? They are all beautiful.”

“What gemstones would you recommend for something they can wear everyday?”

“Do you have designs that feature a mix of cuts, or even a mix of gemstones?”

As Mother’s Day is coming up, we were inspired to keep the most important women in our lives  — our mamas or mother figures, and the women who make all the difference just by being in our lives — in mind as we answer these 3 questions.

“How do I choose the gemstone cut? They are all beautiful.”

A gemstone’s cut is more than just a shape — it reflects a story, a style, and even a personality.

Some cuts whisper of old-world sentimentality, while others make a bold, modern statement. It’s important to know the person’s style, and personality.

For the Sentimental Soul

Sentimental souls often delight at historic cuts that have a romantic story, or those that stand the test of time, like the rare and fully hand-faceted Old Mine Cut (the inspiration for today’s modern brilliant cut), or the uniquely dimensional Rose Cut with its subtle gleam and plush faceting.

Old Mine Cut Diamonds shine at the core of our High Street Collection.

Rose Cut Diamonds, the centerpieces of our Love Token Collection, speak of enduring affection. For an extra sweet touch for the sentimental soul – personalise your keepsake, and choose your loved one’s initial, as pictured in our Love Token Diamond Necklace above, or perhaps even request a symbol that tells a story.

For the Queen of the House

She’s as protective as she is loving, and as firm as she is kind. For our Queens, a Round Brilliant, one of the world’s most classic cuts, couldn’t go wrong. Alternatively, consider step cuts, such as an Asscher/Royal Asscher Cut, or perhaps Emerald/Square Emerald Cuts, as they would make quite the bold, and memorable statement.

This bespoke ring was crafted for love - a round brilliant Teal Sapphire, as one of a kind as the love it represents.

The round brilliant cut is a balance between precision and radiance, and it a marvel in different gemstones, as pictured above in Paradparadscha Sapphire, Blue Sapphire, and Diamond variations of our Enamoured Rings.

Our Deco Pop Collection presents not only a variety of gemstones, and sizes, but also different solid gold colourways such as 18K White, 18K Yellow, or 18K Rose Gold.

For the First Time Mama

For the one who sees the world with renewed eyes and spirit, the softness of curves could signify her ability to nurture and adapt, as she ventures into an entirely new season in life. Cushion cuts are both modern and sophisticated, whilst Oval Cuts or Pear Shapes may represent grace and be a reminder of love and kindness.
Our Deco Darling Collection pairs the bold geometry of Art Deco design with the gentle curves of a Cushion Cut gemstone—a graceful interplay of strength and elegance.

From top to bottom: Our Plush Pink Sapphire Necklace comes alive with its Pear Shaped Pink Sapphire surrounded by Diamonds; Our Pocketful of Gems Yellow Traceable Sapphire Necklace’s Oval-cut Yellow Sapphire is complemented and highlighted by its 18K yellow gold frame.

“What Gemstone Would You Recommend For Something They Can Wear Everyday?”

Sapphires, with a of 9 out of 10 on the Mohs hardness scale, are exceptionally durable, and come in an array of sizes, cuts, colours – characteristics that would make them perfect for both special occasion jewels such as engagement rings or Si Dian Jin, as well as everyday jewels.

Diamonds, the hardest gem of all, are amongst the most popular in the world, of course, and now, more and more gemstones are being requested as well for daily keepsakes, such as Tourmalines, set in our Rhapsody Ring silhouettes:

And Blue Sheen Moonstones, as seen on the ravishing Aisiqa Sinclair:

Certain settings (such as bezel setting) can also be more hardy. Apart from that, with proper jewellery and gemstone care, there are many natural gemstones that can withstand daily wearing. Our Jewellery Specialists would be happy to advise on specific gemstones you may have in mind during your visit.

“Do you have designs that feature a mix of cuts, or even a mix of gemstones?”

As gemstone lovers ourselves, and with Singapore’s largest curation of natural gemstones, it is our great joy to design jewels that feature different cuts. In fact, pairing gemstones, colours and shapes, are a part of our design ideation process.

Our iconic Jazz Age Monument Ring features a cushion-cut Fancy Yellow Diamond, haloed by Round Diamonds, and Shield Cut Diamonds on both sides.

Our tennis bracelets each present a unique medley of Diamond cuts; a balance of visual geometry.
